I am a qualified Relate counsellor with over nine years experience helping couples and individuals with their relationship issues. I am also a fully qualified psychotherapist with experience in community mental health services.

I understand that it is very important that you find a therapist whom you feel you can relate to. I am also aware that the first step to finding the right counsellor can feel very daunting especially if you have never had experience of a talking therapy before. With this is mind I offer a free 30 minute telephone consultation to discuss the issues that are concerning you right now and answer any questions you may have about the therapy I offer. This initial chat will give you the opportunity to see how we relate to one another and is really useful for giving you a feel of how ongoing sessions might be for you. There is no obligation to book an appointment after this call.

I work with individuals and couples who are seeking to develop a better understanding of themselves and their life circumstances or who want to achieve more satisfying and authentic relationships. Together we look at things from a fresh perspective and gain new insight into the most challenging aspects of your life so that you are better placed to make the right choices for your future.

My practice is based on an integrative approach which means that I draw from a number of therapeutic models and theories that are tailored to suit each client. Much of my work is based in the ‘here and now’ exploring how personal expectations and values can influence how you respond to circumstances. Sometimes it is also useful to reflect on past experiences and how they inform current thoughts, feelings and behaviour. Whether we are working on the present or past I feel the best way to approach those aspects that my clients judge to be unacceptable or difficult in some way is from an open and compassionate viewpoint, for it is only from this non judgmental perspective that we can begin to have an honest dialogue with the very aspects that cause pain and confusion.

Couples Counselling

When we are part of a couple it’s not always easy to see clearly how we interact with one another. Sometimes we struggle to effectively communicate, and in spite of our best efforts to find resolution we repeat the same unproductive cycle time and again. Working with an experienced professional can give you an unbiased ‘outside’ perspective that will help you identify the barriers to productive communication and build on the skills needed to address sensitive topics. We will also explore how each of you experiences the relationship so that authenticity, trust and rapport can be established.
